Out of all of our senses, hearing is going to be one of the top two we want to take care of the most. Without hearing, our world will be extremely different. To ensure that our hearing is well maintained, going for a hearing appointment will ensure a doctor can detect if we have any problems.
Tip #1: Avoid loud noises
This is by far the most important tip, because it can ensure that our hearing will be well maintained. By avoiding things like firecrackers and extremely loud concerts (i.e. going to a rave), we will avoid any damage caused due to exposure of the ear drums to such sounds. Since they are at such high volumes, they can cause permanent damage to our ears if they are exposed for too long.
Tip #2: Get your ears checked every year
This is especially true for people who are over 40 years old. While it may not be as frequent a problem for younger individuals, the likelihood of damage increases significantly after this age group. By making sure that our hearing is regularly checked, we can ensure that any problems are detected and treated appropriately.
Tip #3: Have your hearing tested if you have ringing in the ear or feel like something is wrong
This is one of the most dangerous issues because there are a few people who mistake this for a feeling of fullness or being blocked in the ear. The problem is that you are actually experiencing an extreme loss of hearing. If this happens, make sure to get it checked out right away because it can be very easy to miss the problem if you simply ignore it!
Tip #4: Don’t drink excessively (i.e. binge drinking)
Just like loud noises and high volumes, alcohol is one of the worst things you can do to your ears. While it will temporarily make you think that your hearing has improved, in fact it is quite the opposite. Not only are you damaging your own hearing, but people around you are also left exposed to dangerous levels of noise.
Tip #5: If there is a ringing in your ear, try to figure out where it is coming from
This is one of the most dangerous issues because there are a few people who mistake this for a feeling of fullness or being blocked in their ears. The problem is that you are actually experiencing an extreme loss of hearing. If this happens, make sure to get it checked out right away.
